A township of Michigan

Ellington Township is located in Tuscola County in what is known as the Thumb of Michigan. It sits on the northeastern outskirts of the city of Caro, Michigan, which is also the seat of Tuscola County. Ellington township is located between Caro and Cass City.

The township is 35.6 square miles of mostly residential, farmland, and state gaming area. As of the 2020 Census, the population was 1,325.

♦ NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that the Ellington Board of Trustees Regular Township meeting scheduled for November 14, 2023, at 7:30 pm is cancelled.  The next meeting will be held on December 12, 2023 at 7:30 pm at the Ellington Township Hall located at 2791 East Caro Road. ♦ NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN OF ADOPTION AND SUMMARY OF ORDINANCE NO. 100. On October 10, 2023, Ellington Township (the “Township”) adopted Ordinance No. 100, An Ordinance to Amend the Zoning Ordinance to Regulate Solar Energy Systems (the “Ordinance”). The following is a summary of the Ordinance. A true copy of the Ordinance is available at the Township Hall, 2791 East Caro Road, Caro, Michigan. Inspections may take place during normal business hours. Members of the public may obtain a copy of the Ordinance for a reasonable charge. The following is a summary of the Ordinance:
Article 1 of the Ordinance designates the short title of the Ordinance.
Article 2 of the Ordinance lists the activities covered by the Ordinance.
Article 3 of the Ordinance provides how the Ordinance will be administered.
Article 4 of the Ordinance creates zoning districts.
Article 5 of the Ordinance designates uses for Agricultural, Forestry, Residential districts.
Article 6 of the Ordinance designates uses for Residential districts.
Article 7 of the Ordinance designates uses for Manufactured Housing Parks.
Article 8 of the Ordinance designates uses for Commercial districts.
Article 9 of the Ordinance designates uses for Industrial districts.
Article 10 of the Ordinance creates area, setback, and height requirements.
Article 11 of the Ordinance regulates parking and loading.
Article 12 of the Ordinance regulates road frontage, residential occupancy, single- and two-family dwellings, signs, ponds, greenbelts, temporary dwellings, dwellings per parcel, prohibited structures, public service facilities, yard sales, moving buildings, recreational vehicles, and fences and walls.
Article 13 of the Ordinance regulates non-conforming lots, uses, and structures.
Article 14 of the Ordinance establishes the Planning Commission and grants it authority.
Article 15 of the Ordinance sets requirements for site plan reviews.
Article 16 of the Ordinance sets procedures for special land use applications.
Article 17 of the Ordinance creates the Zoning Board of Appeals.
Article 18 of the Ordinance creates the process to amend and rezone.
Article 19 of the Ordinance regulates voluntary rezoning agreements.
Article 20 of the Ordinance creates penalties for violations of the Ordinance.
Article 21 of the Ordinance defines various terms used in the Ordinance.
Article 22 of the Ordinance makes the provisions of the Ordinance severable.
Article 23 of the Ordinance establishes the effective date of the Ordinance.

♦ NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that the PUBLIC HEARING ON PROPOSED ZONING ORDINANCE TEXT AMENDMENT Please take notice that a meeting of the Ellington Township Planning Commission will be held on August 22, 2023 at 7:30 p.m. at the Ellington Township Hall, 2791 East Caro Rd, Caro, MI. At this meeting, the Planning Commission will consider and hold a public hearing on proposed amendments to the Township Zoning Ordinance ("Zoning Ordinance"), which include regulations for solar energy systems in the Township.  The proposed update amendments would, among other things, amend regulations for solar energy systems in the Township such as screening, stray voltage and drainage. The Planning Commission is receiving written comments concerning the proposed amendments.  Comments must be received by the Township prior to the start of the public hearing. A complete copy of the proposed amendments is available at the Township Hall. This notice is posted in compliance with PA 267 of 1976 as amended (Open Meetings Act), MCLA 41.72a (2) (3) and the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and published in compliance with the Michigan Zoning Enabling Act, 2006 P.A. 110.  NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that the Ellington Public Board of Review is scheduled for July 17th, 2023, at 6:00pm.  This meeting will be held at the Ellington Township Hall located at 2791 East Caro Road. The purpose of the July BOR is to correct clerical errors and the board will also hear applications for current year poverty exemption, but not a poverty exemption denied by the March board of review. (mcl 211,7U, page 12 of stc (bulletin # .12 of 1997) to correct qualified errors. This notice is posted in compliance with the Open Meetings Act and the Americans with Disabilities Act.

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that the Ellington Board of Review organizational meeting is scheduled for March 7, 2023, at 7:00pm. Public meetings will be held on March 13, 2023, at 3pm-9pm; and March 14, 2022, at 9am-3pm. The Board of Review will meet to hear questions, protests, and equalize the 2023 assessments. The tentative ratios and multipliers for Ellington are:

Residential ratio: 42.19, multiplier 1.1851
