Ellington Township

A township of Michigan

Ellington Township is located in Tuscola County in what is known as the Thumb of Michigan. It sits on the northeastern outskirts of the city of Caro, Michigan, which is also the seat of Tuscola County. Ellington township is located between Caro and Cass City.

The township is 35.6 square miles of mostly residential, farmland, and state gaming area. As of the 2020 Census, the population was 1,325.

♦ NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that the Ellington Township Board meeting that was scheduled for April 9, 2024 will be held on April 18, 2024, at 7:30 pm. This meeting will be held at the Ellington Township Hall located at 2791 East Caro Road. This notice is posted in compliance with the Open Meetings Act and the Americans with Disabilities Act.

♦ NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that a meeting of the Ellington Township Planning Commission will be held
on April 16, 2024 at 7:30p.m. at the Ellington Township Hall, 2791 East Caro Rd, Caro, MI.
At this meeting, the Planning Commission will hold a public hearing on the following requests
and any other business that may regularly come before the Planning Commission:

Special Land Use for parcel 008-016-000-2200-07 located on Lazell Rd in Ellington
Township. The property has been mined for sand and gravel over the past 20 years and
is being preparing for closure. The previously approved Special Land Use Permit has
expired, however there is processed material still remaining. The land owner is
requesting a new permit that will allow the remaining material to be removed without
increasing the footprint of the pit.

The Ellington Township Planning Commission is receiving written comments concerning the
proposed request. Comments must be received by the Township prior to the start of the public
hearing. A complete copy of the applications and related materials are available at the Township
Hall.

♦ NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that a meeting of the Ellington Township Zoning Board of Appeals will be
held on March 21, 2024 at 11:30a.m. at the Ellington Township Hall, 2791 East Caro Rd,
Caro, MI.

At this meeting, the Zoning Board of Appeals will consider and hold a public hearing on the
following requests and any other business that may regularly come before the Zoning Board of
Appeals: Variance submitted by Doug Lagos for property located at 1122 Plain Rd, Cass City,
MI 48726, Parcel No. 008-035-000-1050-00. Current ordinance specifies 50 feet for a
side yard setback. The proposed site plan specifies 32 feet side yard setback remaining
after the addition of garage.

On October 10, 2023, Ellington Township (the “Township”) adopted Ordinance No. 100, An Ordinance to Amend the Zoning Ordinance to Regulate Solar Energy Systems (the “Ordinance”). The following is a summary of the Ordinance. A true copy of the Ordinance is available at the Township Hall, 2791 East Caro Road, Caro, Michigan. Inspections may take place during normal business hours. Members of the public may obtain a copy of the Ordinance for a reasonable charge. The following is a summary of the Ordinance:
Article 1 of the Ordinance designates the short title of the Ordinance.
Article 2 of the Ordinance lists the activities covered by the Ordinance.
Article 3 of the Ordinance provides how the Ordinance will be administered.
Article 4 of the Ordinance creates zoning districts.
Article 5 of the Ordinance designates uses for Agricultural, Forestry, Residential districts.
Article 6 of the Ordinance designates uses for Residential districts.
Article 7 of the Ordinance designates uses for Manufactured Housing Parks.

Article 16 of the Ordinance sets procedures for special land use applications.
Article 17 of the Ordinance creates the Zoning Board of Appeals.
Article 18 of the Ordinance creates the process to amend and rezone.
Article 19 of the Ordinance regulates voluntary rezoning agreements.

♦ NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that the PUBLIC HEARING ON PROPOSED ZONING ORDINANCE TEXT AMENDMENT Please take notice that a meeting of the Ellington Township Planning Commission will be held on August 22, 2023 at 7:30 p.m. at the Ellington Township Hall, 2791 East Caro Rd, Caro, MI. At this meeting, the Planning Commission will consider and hold a public hearing on proposed amendments to the Township Zoning Ordinance ("Zoning Ordinance"), which include regulations for solar energy systems in the Township.  The proposed update amendments would, among other things, amend regulations for solar energy systems in the Township such as screening, stray voltage and drainage. The Planning Commission is receiving written comments concerning the proposed amendments.  Comments must be received by the Township prior to the start of the public hearing.
